After arriving transfer to the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. Ankara is the capital of Turkey, has a population of five million, making it the second most populous city in the country after Istanbul and the centre of the Turkish Parliament. In Ankara, we will briefly visit the Atatürk Mausoleum, the Founder of the Turkish Republic and Modern Turkey and we will go up to the citadel to visit The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, considered the best museum in Europe and awarded in 1997 for this reason.

The museum exhibits the main archaeological finds, from the Paleolithic to Roman times, but it is especially important for its comprehensive exposition of Hittite Art, which are considered the ancestors of the Turks. Likewise, the collections that have been found thanks to the excavations in territories occupied by Assyrians, Phrygians and Urartos are surprising. We are going to continue our trip to Cappadocia by coach, passing the Salt Lake. We are going to have lunch en route. We are going to arrive in Cappadocia in the afternoon. In the evening, we are possibly going to attend an optional excursion of the Turkish Night. We are going to have dinner and stay the night at the Cappadocia hotel. (A / C)

DAY 2 CAPPADOCIA

We are going to tour the Cappadocia region all day. Early in the morning, we are most probably attend an optional excursion of the Hot Air Balloon Flight. After breakfast, we are going to visit this fantastic region, considered one of the wonders of the world for its natural landscapes, a mixture of the vagaries of nature and human art. Formerly the Hittites dominated the region; they baptized this region as Katpatuka, which means “Country of the Beautiful Horses”. Cappadocia played a very important role in the spread of Christianity. The early Christians built churches, monasteries, and chapels on the rocks, and painted their walls with scenes from the Bible to decorate and teach the history of Christianity.

Göreme Open Air Museum: Korama was an important religious center in the early years of Christianity in Cappadocia, numerous churches excavated and decorated by the order of Saint Basil the Great, Bishop of Caesarea. UNESCO declares it a World Heritage Site thanks to the beauty of the wall paintings that demonstrate the biblical scenes, which are found on the walls of the churches excavated in the tuff material of Cappadocia.

AVANOS: A center of art pottery since 3000 BC, it is a town where you are invited to visit a traditional pottery workshop, a carpet store where they teach how to weave carpet or a Craft Center where you can see the examples of the typical crafts of the region that are resources of the economy of the town.

PASABAG VALLEY: The inhabitants of Cappadocia needed pigeons and dovecotes, to send messages, to eat pigeons and their eggs and lastly they needed to obtain pigeons as fertilizer to use in the fields or orchards. Therefore, they dug in the heights away from the hustle and bustle of the towns.

TOWN OF UCHISAR: Uchisar is a troglodyte town located in the center of Cappadocia. It is the name of the huge piece of rock in the city center, which was once used as a castle and watchtower to be able to warn the inhabitants who were hiding in the underground cities before the danger of attack by the invaders. This extraordinary rock is the highest peak in the area after Monte de Erciyes (Argeo).

THE UNDERGROUND CITY: We are going to visit Ozkonak Underground City. The first floors of the underground cities are dug in the 20th century B.C. by the Hittites and last floors by the first Christian communities to use as shelters, they are considered a masterpiece of military architecture with the facilities it proposed to survive during the three months they used.

In the afternoon, we are going to return to the hotel. At night, we are most probably going to attend an optional excursion of the Rite of Dancing Dervishes. We are going to have dinner and stay the night at the Cappadocia hotel.
