Tour Ephesus +Temple of Artemis

Those archeology lovers will find their little paradise in Ephesus. Considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World, this ancient city was created as an Ionic refuge and eventually became the second most important city of the Roman Empire and site for a big Christian church (to which St. Paul refers in his Letter to the Ephesians).

At the entrance you will see Vedius Gymnasium and the foundations of what must be a huge stadium (the stands were dismantled to build the Byzantine wall). Once through the door is impossible not to be captivated by the Arcadian Road, a wonderful avenue flanked by marble columns terminating at one end in the dazzling Grand Theatre. This theater, which could seat 25,000 spectators, is dug into the slopes of Mount Pion and served as the setting for Artemis Festival, which was held every year. From the theater, you will see the Marble Road, which leads to the Celsus Library, almost completely reconstructed by Viennese archaeologists. The excavated facade of the library is a tribute to the majestic architecture of Ephesus.

If we look at the hill we will see the Temple of Hadrian, the Baths of Scholastika and the terraced houses. A little further away is the Fountain of Trajan and the Cave of the Seven Sleepers. Before returning to the ship we will make a stop  for you to buy gifts and typical local products.

Temple of Artemis: Located on the  hill of Ayasuluk there is the  Temple of Artemis, or  Artemision, which was one of the  Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, although from some excavations its location is presumed to have being in different places.

Dedicated to the  cult of Artemis, very popular in the region, it became a much visited center of pilgrimage and so the city itself. Each year, a whole month of vacation was taken for religious ceremonials and contemplation.
